A beautiful pair, seemingly related only by title (itself a corruption of the Scots Gaelic “Caber Feigh”), not by melodic material. The first (which fittingly enough I learned years before the second), is also known in Cape Breton, but I think I must have got it in Boston or Bloomington sessions in the 1980s. The second is associated with both Sligo (Fred Finn) and Clare (Willie Clancy); Séamus Ennis, who probably got it from Willie, recorded it on his first LP, in 1959. Tommy Keane and Jackie McCarthy also have a beautiful version on their The Wind Among the Reeds.
