From the recording Song: So Early in the Spring
Angie and I put this arrangement together, sort of at the last minute, over tea and chips with John and Shirley Perrin at a B&B in Limerick, just before flying back from Shannon to do these sessions. I’d heard her sing “So Early” unaccompanied (Judy Collins, anyone?) for years, and, stuck for an idea for a second song, suggested “let’s just do ‘So Early’ like a troubadour song.” Randal plays low-tuned fiddle, I play Provence-meets-Delhi field organ, Roger bouzouki (and pumps the field organ pedals), and Angie lays this down as a first take. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky (in your colleagues and spouse) than good.
